Inspired by Jeff Koons’ shiny, balloon-like sculptures and John Chamberlain’s bold forms made from scrap car parts, Spencer Carroll translates these design elements into his designs.
While both Koons and Chaimberlains work come in solid, metallic forms, Carroll mimics the gleaming and inflated looks the artists before him embody. Carroll also aims to evoke playful nostalgia by also drawing inspiration from market stalls and their shiny objects, packaging, and digital brights of market stalls. To add to the illusion of inflateability and metallic sheen, the effect is visually enhanced through photographic engineered prints.
