One of the saddest things I think is seeing artists put so much work into their artistic vision sonically and creatively and then fall short when it comes to merch.
From design to quality to pricing, we’ve seen fans complain about merch they’ve received, the latest being Travis Scott’s “Days Before Radio Merch”.
And of course to the labels and artists it’s just a way to maximise sales and revenue. I just think clothing is one of the biggest avenues for communicating your artistic vision while also connecting with fans on a deeper level. Artists are some of the most fashion forward people in the creative industry, it’d be amazing to see that care extend into their merch with greater artist involvement, instead of being a quick money grab. I think one of the best ways to negate this is seeing merch as an actual brand as opposed to just merch (think Chief Keefs Glo Gang)
Feel free to tell me about your experience with artists if you’re ever bought some. Shoutout to artists and the teams putting quality and effort into their merch.
