WHY THE CUSTOMER ISN'T ALWAYS RIGHT

You may have heard the saying, “The customer is always right” and while it definitely has truth to it, I think in today's age it's not as simple as that. Here's why:

ATTENTION SPANS & SPEED OF INTERNET

Nowadays, people's tastes and wants change at a pace brands can find difficult to keep up with. A trend can rise and then die within a week and people's attention spans are demanded on every corner of the internet. When things can change so quick, it's hard to make judgement of valuable info that can help with either brand or product development keeping you stuck.

THEY DON’T ALWAYS KNOW WHAT THEY WANT

This links to the attention span point. We’re in a consumption age where there is an abundance of content and new things to buy. we’re spoilt for choice making it hard to make a decision on what you want because within comparison, options has own pros and cons over the other.

WHO DO WE EVEN LISTEN TO?

The internet and social media is available to everyone meaning its a free space for users to engage with what they like. the problem arises when we listen to the wrong voices who we think we should be listening to, because the truth is, not everybody on the internet is your audience. you may see someone give their opinion on something and think it may apply to you when thats not always the case.

HOW REAL IS THEIR OPINION?

Unfortunately, this is where were at with modern internet. fashion Tiktok and IG comments are the hallmark for this. a lot of users are more so saying things for controversy/attention or to feel different from the rest. it takes nuance to distinguish whats a real opinion and which is an inflated one.

THEY DON'T GET THE FULL PICTURE

Consumers don’t always understand the producers. consumers only see the end result of everything and not the work, effort and process put into something, this makes it difficult for consumers to understand certain factors leading to assumptions and unrealistic expectations.
